Today we held a Polar Exploration Day and Mr Terry Kirk, our Polar Ambassador, came in to help us with all sorts of experiments. This was aimed at improving STEM subjects, raising aspirations and attainment through:
1 Increased enjoyment and engagement in STEM subject lessons
2 Increased confidence in learning science and in scientific enquiry skills
3 Increased awareness of the importance and relevance of science to society, and the role this has to play in relation to helping people live with and adapt to climate change
4 Increased knowledge of career opportunities available to those pupils who study STEM subjects
5 Increased confidence in the quality of science teaching in schools
6 Increased knowledge of the work of the Polar Research Vessel
The children had a very interesting and enjoyable day.
